On June 24th 1976, the location of what is probably the most important battlefield in Great Britain will come under the auctioneers hammer, being Senlac Hill at Battle, near Hastings, and there will be absolutely no representation of British Historical interests present.
We, the undersigned, believe that in this day of Private Enterprise and, as some believe, unjustified Governmental subsidies, a sound and solid attempt should be made to prevent the loss of this site to the heritage of the British people and it is far from being beyond the means of the Government to give a grant to the National Trust to obtain and maintain this and other hallowed grounds
