Battling it out at Feast
SAXONS and Vikings took to the battlefield — but all in the name of the community.
Re-enactment group Gesithas Herred were just one of the attractions at the annual Waterbeach Feast held on Saturday.
Chris Allen, secretary of feast organisers Waterbeach Community Assoclation, said: “The day went very well. We had a couple of showers which didn't put people off.”
"The streets were well-lined for the parade and the re-enactments were very good.”
As well as battle re-enactments, members of the group set up camp on Waterbeach Green to show their skills at cooking, weaving and metalwork.
The Arco Iris Samba Band led a parade through the village which included the Feast Prince and Princess with their attendants and floats from local village groups.
There were also stalls on the Green, while ring events included Waterbeach Brass Band and a children's entertainer.
Mr Allen said: “Firefighters from Cottenham also had a water football match, as they tried to score goals using jets from their hoses.‘
Money raised from the event will be used by the community association towards village facilities. Donations will also be made to other groups.
