Description

On the 29th of July, 1018, the Battle of Vlaardingen was fought. The German emperor sent an army towards western Frisia to subdue the rebellious Count Dirk III. However, the imperial army was defeated by the Vlaardingers and fled in panic.

This event was organized to commemorate the battle, and run by Kees Nieuwenhuijsen who had been a member of The Vikings for several years. As a European event which was relatively easy to reach and likely to be lower cost than many others, a small group of Vike members attended. The event included smaller groups from around the Netherlands and Belgium, and a larger group from the Jomsvikings. The event was very successful, with large audiences each day and national TV coverage in the Netherlands, and was unusual in including a flock of sheep on the battlefield. Major characters were given radio mics and spoke directly in character to the audience with a commentator speaking around them.
